Toyota Hilux BEV: A New Era for the Legendary Pickup
Toyota is officially opening orders for its highly anticipated Hilux BEV, a monumental step as the automaker introduces its first fully electric, body-on-frame pickup truck. This electrified ninth-generation Hilux, a global best-seller for over seven decades, is poised to bring the legendary workhorse into an electrified future, with initial pricing starting at under $60,000.
The Hilux BEV showcases a fresh “Tough and Agile” design, distinguished by slim LED headlights and a prominent Toyota nameplate at the front. Beneath its Double Cab body, a permanent all-wheel-drive system powered by dual motors delivers a robust 278 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque, capable of towing over 3,700 lbs (1,700 kg). For off-road adventures, the truck features reinforced eAxles, special undercovers, and is Toyota’s first EV equipped with Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) offering five adaptive drive modes and a 700 mm wading depth.
Energy comes from a 59.2 kWh water-cooled lithium-ion battery, providing a WLTP range of up to 160 miles (257 km), with an impressive city cycle range of 236 miles (380 km). DC fast-charging at 125 kW allows for a 10-80% recharge in approximately 30 minutes. Inside, the cabin mirrors Toyota’s latest interior setup, featuring dual 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and driver information, complemented by third-gen T-Mate safety and ADAS features.
While available for order in markets such as the UK and Australia, the Toyota Hilux BEV is not expected to launch in the United States.
