Stellantis is officially divesting its carsharing arm, Free2move, selling the division to the Munich-based investment group Mutares. This move is a key component of the automotive giant's ongoing strategic realignment, aimed at streamlining its portfolio and focusing on core operations.
A Push for Electrification
The acquisition by Mutares is expected to bring a renewed focus on sustainability. The investment firm has already signaled plans to expand the service by deploying a higher volume of electric vehicles (EVs) across the Free2move fleet. This shift aligns with broader industry trends toward decarbonizing urban mobility services.
Timeline for Transition
The transaction is currently in its early stages and is subject to regulatory approvals. According to the official announcement, the sale and subsequent transition of the division are expected to be fully completed by the end of 2026. Until then, Free2move will continue to operate under its current structure as it prepares for the change in ownership.
