Scaling Sustainable Logistics
Pos Malaysia, the nation's primary postal and parcel service provider, has achieved a significant sustainability milestone, confirming that one-third of its total parcel deliveries are now conducted using electric vehicles (EVs). This development cements its position as the operator of the largest electric logistics fleet in Malaysia, covering vast delivery networks across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak. With the latest fleet updates, the company’s EV operations have surged from just 20% last year to 33% today, marking a rapid transition toward a cleaner last-mile delivery model.
The scale of this transition is evidenced by the massive growth in hardware assets. As of August 2026, the company operates 1,585 electric vehicles. This fleet is comprised of 1,253 electric two-wheelers and 332 electric vans. This fleet expansion is part of a strategic roadmap aimed at replacing the entirety of its first- and last-mile delivery vehicles with electric alternatives by the year 2030.
The Two-Wheeler Backbone: Modenas MEV-1 Pro
The core of Pos Malaysia’s electric mobility strategy relies on the Modenas MEV-1 Pro scooter. Following a major acquisition of 1,092 units that began in late 2024, these scooters have become the workhorses for the company's dense urban and suburban mail delivery operations. Each unit is specifically optimized for short-to-medium distance hauls, offering a practical range of 135 kilometres per charge.
By integrating such a large volume of these scooters, Pos Malaysia has been able to significantly slash the fuel costs and maintenance requirements typical of internal combustion engine fleets. The move highlights the suitability of high-efficiency electric scooters for rapid, stop-and-start delivery environments.
Heavy-Duty Electric Vans: CAM EC35 and Maxus Series
Complementing its two-wheeler fleet, Pos Malaysia has invested heavily in electric vans to manage larger parcel volumes. The company utilizes a diverse mix of hardware to meet its logistics needs, beginning with the CAM EC35—a rebadged version of the DFSK EC35 sourced via Yinson GreenTech’s leasing arm, drivEV. These vans provide a reliable WLTP range of 266 kilometres, perfect for heavier routes.
In addition to the EC35, the fleet has been bolstered by the Maxus eDeliver 3, which offers a 227-kilometre range, and the more capable Maxus eDeliver 5. With 246 units of the Maxus eDeliver 5 ordered earlier this year, the company is steadily upgrading its cargo capacity. This specific model, featuring a 335-kilometre range, allows for longer inter-zone deliveries that were previously difficult to cover with early-generation electric vans.
Why it Matters
- Decarbonization Impact: Since the 2023 fiscal year, the EV fleet has logged 28.8 million kilometres, preventing approximately 3,881 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
- Strategic Growth: The expansion demonstrates the viability of fleet electrification in tropical, high-traffic regions like Malaysia.
- Sustainability Benchmarking: The initiative has been recognized by the UN Global Compact Network for its role in industrial sustainability.
Looking ahead, the momentum generated by this fleet transition suggests that logistics providers in Southeast Asia are increasingly viewing EV adoption not merely as a corporate social responsibility project, but as a long-term operational necessity. As battery range improves and charging infrastructure matures, Pos Malaysia remains on a clear trajectory toward total fleet decarbonization.
