Recent findings presented at the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) Forum 2026 suggest that multilingualism may act as a powerful buffer against cognitive decline. According to the research, individuals who speak more than one language appear to maintain 'younger' brain structures compared to those who speak only one.
Preserving Neural Connectivity
The human brain relies on billions of nerve cells communicating through complex networks. As a natural part of the aging process, this connectivity typically begins to deteriorate, leading to common symptoms such as reduced memory capacity and slower processing speeds.
