Expanding the Electric Horizon
Iveco Bus has officially entered the compact electric minibus segment, marking a significant step in the manufacturer’s push to electrify every corner of the transit market. Debuting at the FIAA trade show in Madrid, the new eFlexy series arrives as a six-meter-long, 5-tonne vehicle platform. By adding this segment to its portfolio, which already includes massive 18-meter articulated city buses and intercity coaches, Iveco is positioning itself to be a one-stop-shop for municipal and private transport operators looking to decarbonize their fleets across every use case.
The eFlexy series is built in collaboration with Italian bodywork specialist Olmedo and is designed to bridge the gap between heavy-duty public transit and demand-responsive shuttle services. With first deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, the eFlexy is not just a concept, but a production-ready solution aimed at changing how cities manage short-distance passenger transport.
The eFlexy City: Urban Mastery
Tailored specifically for high-frequency urban environments, the eFlexy City is categorized as a Class A vehicle. It is optimized for maximum capacity and accessibility in bustling city centers. Its design allows for a standard configuration holding up to 17 passengers plus a driver, effectively moving crowds in narrow streets where larger buses would struggle to navigate.
For operators focusing on inclusivity, the eFlexy City offers a dedicated accessible configuration. This layout features nine seats along with two standing spaces and a designated area for a wheelchair user, complete with a rear-mounted hydraulic lift. This makes it an ideal candidate for transit authorities tasked with meeting strict accessibility mandates without sacrificing operational efficiency.
The eFlexy Line: Versatile Shuttle Performance
Positioned as a Class B vehicle, the eFlexy Line is built for the rigors of scheduled services, corporate shuttles, and intercity transit. While the City variant focuses on high-density urban movement, the Line variant offers a slightly different aesthetic and functional setup, prioritizing passenger comfort for longer trips or specific shuttle runs. It typically accommodates 13 passengers plus the driver, though it remains highly customizable to meet specific fleet requirements.
Like its urban counterpart, the Line model can be configured with an accessible layout, offering eight seats and a wheelchair space. Both models feature premium touches designed to emulate the driving experience of a passenger car, including adjustable seating, integrated seatbelts, a continuous flat floor, and a wide, 1.2-meter sliding side door with an electric step to facilitate smooth, rapid passenger boarding.
Technical Specifications and Connectivity
