The findings indicate that individuals exposed to higher levels of light at night exhibited significant thickening of the left ventricle wall. As the heart muscle wall thickens, the volume of the heart chamber decreases, which can compromise the organ's ability to pump blood effectively. Furthermore, the scans showed a decline in the heart's natural flexibility, an early warning sign that the muscle is struggling to relax and contract properly during each cycle.
This process, known as cardiac remodeling, is typically the heart's adaptive, yet ultimately damaging, response to chronic stress or physical injury. When these changes are triggered by external factors like persistent nighttime light, it places the heart under unnecessary strain.
