Saudi Arabia's First Homegrown Automotive Powerhouse
The landscape of the electric vehicle industry is witnessing a dramatic shift as Ceer, Saudi Arabia’s inaugural homegrown car manufacturer, pulls the curtain back on its debut vehicle lineup. Born from a strategic joint venture between the Saudi Public Investment Fund and Foxconn—the manufacturing titan best known for its role in the global electronics supply chain—Ceer is aiming to accelerate the Kingdom’s transition away from fossil fuel dependency. Under the guidance of former McLaren design director Rob Melville, the brand has debuted the Exobot platform, an ambitious architecture that powers two distinct vehicles designed to challenge the aesthetic conventions of the modern automotive market.
1. The Exobot Sedan
The Ceer Exobot sedan immediately distinguishes itself with a radical, wedge-shaped silhouette that appears to draw inspiration from the cyberpunk aesthetic. Its extremely low nose transitions into a rising rear profile, accented by gullwing doors and a sophisticated lighting signature; the front and rear light bars each house 32 individual elements, a deliberate nod to the year of Saudi Arabia's unification in 1932. The interior carries this futuristic theme forward with a massive 8K panoramic display spanning the entire dashboard, a yoke-style steering wheel, and a secondary vertical touchscreen, all housed within a cabin featuring sharp, angular geometry.
Performance figures for the sedan are equally aggressive. Utilizing an 800-volt electrical architecture, the vehicle is propelled by a three-motor setup that delivers a staggering 850 horsepower. This allows for a sprint from zero to 62 mph in just 2.6 seconds. The vehicle is supported by a large 112 kWh battery pack, which is estimated to provide a range of up to 416 miles on the NEDC cycle. Charging is optimized for high-speed infrastructure, with peak capabilities of 250 kW, allowing for a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes.
2. The Exobot SUV
Sharing the same DNA as its sedan counterpart, the Exobot SUV utilizes the same core 800-volt powertrain and tri-motor layout, maintaining that same potent 850-horsepower output. While it shares the dramatic exterior lighting and concept-car styling cues of the sedan, the SUV architecture offers a different utility proposition. Its performance metrics remain top-tier, hitting the 62 mph mark in 2.9 seconds. Due to its larger frame and aerodynamic profile, the SUV offers an estimated range of 348 miles on the NEDC cycle.
Like the sedan, the interior of the SUV is dominated by screen-heavy technology and specialized, tactile design elements. It retains the signature yoke steering wheel and the vast 8K screen array. The commitment to unique design is visible everywhere, from the inclusion of lower viewing windows near the front passenger footwells to the extensive use of hexagonal styling cues throughout the cabin. By utilizing Rimac-supplied electric drive systems, Ceer ensures that these vehicles are not just aesthetic statements, but high-performance machines engineered for reliability.
Why It Matters
- Strategic Diversification: Ceer is a central component of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aimed at establishing a high-tech manufacturing sector that operates independently of oil revenue.
- Manufacturing Pedigree: The partnership with Foxconn signals a new era of automotive assembly, bringing consumer-electronics efficiency to high-performance vehicle production.
- Design Ambition: By recruiting high-profile design talent like Rob Melville, the brand is positioning itself as a leader in avant-garde automotive aesthetics, aiming to create vehicles that define an era rather than merely following current design trends.
