In a significant move toward sustainable logistics, food industry leader Mars and grocery retailer Rewe have announced the implementation of a continuous test corridor for electric freight. The initiative involves the deployment of 47 battery-electric trucks designed to handle the heavy-duty demands of food distribution.
Electrifying the Supply Chain
The new pilot corridor covers the entire logistics path, from Mars' production facilities through various storage hubs, and finally to Rewe's retail locations. This project marks the first time both companies have integrated electric heavy-duty vehicles into a continuous, synchronized transport route.
By replacing traditional diesel engines with battery-electric alternatives on these specific routes, the partners aim to gather critical data on the performance and efficiency of heavy-duty EVs in the FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) sector. The pilot serves as a blueprint for scaling zero-emission logistics across European road networks.
