Scaling High-Power Charging
As the transition to electrified transportation accelerates, the demand for robust, high-capacity infrastructure has moved to the forefront of industry priorities. Efacec has answered this call with the introduction of its new “Charging Hub” platform, an integrated system capable of delivering up to 1.6 MW of total power. This comprehensive solution is engineered to support a diverse range of vehicles, from everyday passenger cars to heavy-duty commercial fleets, providing a scalable path for operators looking to deploy significant charging capacity.
By consolidating charging technology, automation, software, and medium-voltage grid equipment into a single, cohesive unit, Efacec aims to eliminate the friction often associated with complex multi-vendor energy projects. The system is available either as an independent high-power charging (HPC) unit or as an all-encompassing MV-to-DC solution, which simplifies the integration process for site developers and utility managers alike.
Technical Architecture and Modularity
At the heart of the Charging Hub lies a highly flexible modular power architecture. The platform operates on 800 kW power blocks, which allow site operators to tailor their charging capacity to meet specific local energy demands. These power modules are adjustable in 40 kW increments, offering a granular level of control over performance and energy consumption. Supporting up to 16 DC satellite dispensers, the hub can be configured to meet a wide variety of site layouts and usage patterns.
The satellite stations themselves are designed with versatility in mind, featuring options for either single or dual-connector configurations. Operators can select from several current settings, including 2x 250 A, 2x 375 A, 2x 500 A, or a high-intensity 1x 700 A option for rapid energy transfer. Additionally, Efacec has included an “Active Boost Mode” feature, allowing for temporary surges in current to accommodate peak demand periods or particularly urgent charging sessions.
Why It Matters
- Future-Proofing: While the system currently utilizes standard CCS connectors, it is pre-engineered to support the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) at 1000 volts, ensuring compatibility with the next generation of heavy-duty electric trucks.
- Project Efficiency: By acting as a single technology provider, Efacec reduces the number of interfaces between different suppliers, which typically lowers the risk of deployment delays and reduces overall project complexity.
- Scalable Growth: The modular 40 kW increment design allows businesses to start with a smaller footprint and expand their infrastructure as their EV fleet grows, protecting their initial capital investment.
The move by Efacec highlights a broader industry shift toward integrated energy hubs rather than isolated charging stalls. By handling everything from the medium-voltage connection to the final charging point, the company is positioning itself as a turn-key solution provider for the logistical and corporate fleet sectors, where time-to-market and operational reliability are critical metrics for success.
