Following years of restricted sugar consumption, rationing ended in September 1953, leading to a rapid increase in sugar intake. Children born just months apart experienced vastly different levels of sugar exposure in their early years. Researchers examined data from over 64,000 individuals born between 1951 and 1956, analyzing their sugar consumption patterns during the first 1,000 days of life— a crucial developmental period.
