German battery recycling specialist Cylib has announced the acquisition of a mechanical processing facility located in Bavaria. This strategic move significantly bolsters the company's infrastructure as it scales operations to meet the growing demand for sustainable electric vehicle (EV) battery disposal.
Scaling Capacity
The newly acquired site possesses the capacity to process up to 10,000 tonnes of end-of-life EV batteries every year. During the mechanical processing phase, batteries are broken down to produce "black mass," a substance rich in critical raw materials such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt.
Integrated Supply Chain
This Bavarian facility will serve as a primary supplier for Cylib’s upcoming hydrometallurgical recycling plant currently under construction in Dormagen. By integrating mechanical processing and hydrometallurgical recovery, Cylib aims to create a closed-loop system for battery materials within Germany, reducing reliance on external raw material imports.
