BMW has recently announced it has reached a critical milestone by selling its two millionth battery-electric vehicle (BEV). The milestone vehicle, an i5 M60 xDrive, was produced in Dingolfing, Germany. When combined with its sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), BMW’s total electrified vehicle sales have surged to 3.5 million.
This achievement marks a significant part of BMW's commitment to electrification. Reports highlight that over 25% of the company’s global vehicle sales are now electrified, underscoring the growing consumer preference for sustainable mobility solutions.
Key Points
- BMW's sales of battery electric vehicles reached 2 million, with the milestone i5 M60 xDrive delivered in Spain.
- With plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, the total electrified fleet sold by BMW stands at 3.5 million.
- In Q2 2026, BMW's European EV sales surged by 38%, totaling 81,445 units; about one-third were iX3s, demonstrating strong market demand.
- The upcoming i3 and iX5 models are anticipated to drive further sales growth, with the i3 projected to deliver 440 miles on a single charge.
- This milestone indicates a pivotal shift since the launch of the original i3 in 2013, as electric versions of popular models like the X3 gain traction in a competitive market.
The iX3 has been a key driver of this sales success, particularly in the European market, where demand for electric vehicles continues to escalate. With this momentum, BMW aims to solidify its presence in the evolving automotive landscape, especially as competitors also ramp up their electric offerings.
