This non-intrusive technique is designed to identify specific signatures that occur when a reactor is being used to produce weapons-grade plutonium.

Unlike traditional inspection methods that require physical access to a facility, antineutrino detectors could enable offsite, 24/7 monitoring. Because antineutrinos are particles that pass through most matter virtually undisturbed, they carry precise information about the nuclear reactions occurring within a reactor's core.
This breakthrough offers a potential solution for international regulatory bodies to ensure that fusion energy technology—intended for clean power—is not being diverted for military purposes.
