AESC has reached a significant milestone in battery technology with the launch of mass production for its new 46120 cylindrical cells. These high-performance round cells are specifically engineered to support the BMW Group's upcoming lineup of electric vehicles.
Powering the Future BMW iX5
The first vehicle confirmed to utilize this new battery technology is the all-electric BMW iX5. While production of the cells has already commenced, the market debut for the iX5 is currently scheduled for late 2026 or early 2027. This partnership highlights a shift toward standardized cylindrical cell formats aimed at improving energy density and charging speeds.
As AESC scales up its manufacturing capabilities, these 46-millimeter diameter cells are expected to play a crucial role in BMW's strategy to enhance the range and efficiency of its premium EV segment.
