MG is initiating a significant safety recall for its all-electric S5 EV, affecting nearly 10,000 units. The decision comes after internal investigations identified a potential fire risk linked to the vehicle's cooling system during extreme weather conditions.
Technical Flaw in Low Temperatures
The core of the issue lies in the cooling fan's behavior at low temperatures. According to the manufacturer, the cooling fan can become frozen or obstructed by ice. If the system attempts to operate under these conditions, the fan controller may overheat, creating a risk of fire within the engine bay or electrical compartment.
MG has advised owners of the affected S5 models to remain vigilant. The company is expected to provide a software update or hardware inspection to mitigate the risk and ensure the fan controller operates safely even in freezing environments.
