Hyundai has officially commenced the local assembly of its flagship electric crossover, the Ioniq 5, in Thailand. This strategic move is designed to significantly reduce production costs and retail prices, allowing the South Korean automaker to compete more effectively in the rapidly growing Southeast Asian EV market.
Competitive Pricing Strategy
The locally built Ioniq 5 has been launched at a starting price of 1.699 million baht, which translates to approximately €44,713. By transitioning from imported units to domestic assembly, Hyundai aims to leverage local manufacturing incentives and streamline its supply chain within the region.
This initiative reflects Hyundai's broader commitment to establishing a stronger manufacturing footprint in Thailand, a country that is quickly becoming a central hub for electric vehicle production in the ASEAN territory.
