Chinese automotive manufacturer Hongqi has unveiled its latest breakthrough in electric vehicle technology: the 12C ultra-fast charging battery. During recent testing phases, the company reported that the battery was capable of charging from 10% to 70% capacity in under four minutes.
Accelerating the Charging Race
This development positions Hongqi at the forefront of the global competition to eliminate range anxiety and reduce downtime at charging stations. The 12C rating indicates a theoretical capability of fully charging the battery in a fraction of an hour, provided the charging infrastructure can support such high power outputs.
While specific technical details regarding the battery chemistry and thermal management systems remain limited, the successful test marks a significant milestone in China's broader strategy to dominate the ultra-fast charging sector. If integrated into mass-market vehicles, this technology could bring the EV refueling experience closer to the speed of traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.
