Freenow, the mobility platform backed by Lyft, and Apollo Go, the autonomous driving division of Baidu, have initiated road tests for robotaxis in London. This move represents the first practical implementation of the commercial partnership established between the two companies for the European market.
Expanding Autonomous Mobility
The trials are designed to evaluate the performance of autonomous vehicles within London's complex urban environment. Following their 2025 announcement to bring self-driving technology to Europe, these tests serve as a critical foundation for a full-scale commercial rollout.
By integrating Apollo Go’s advanced autonomous driving systems with Freenow’s extensive ride-hailing network, the partnership aims to provide scalable, driverless transport solutions. While the current phase is limited to testing, it signals a significant shift in the competitive landscape of European urban mobility.
