Ford has issued a formal safety recall in the United States affecting several model years of its flagship electric crossover, the Mustang Mach-E. The recall targets specific vehicles manufactured between 2021 and 2023.
Technical Defect Identified
According to documentation filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue involves the vehicle's rear differential. Specifically, the rear differential pinion shaft in these units may be at risk of fracturing.
A fractured pinion shaft can lead to a loss of motive power or, in some instances, cause the vehicle to roll while in park if the electronic parking brake is not engaged. Ford and the NHTSA are working to notify affected owners to ensure the necessary inspections and repairs are completed to mitigate safety risks.
