Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has reached a significant milestone by installing 10,000 Flash Chargers across China. This initiative, which began earlier this year, is part of BYD's broader goal to deploy 20,000 charging stations by the end of 2026.
The Flash Chargers are advanced T-shaped units designed for rapid deployment and high charging speeds. They can provide up to 1,500 kW of power, enabling vehicles to charge from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes when paired with BYD's second-generation Blade Battery. This technology aims to meet the increasing demand for fast charging while maintaining a balance to avoid overloading the electrical grid.
Key Points
- The Flash Chargers feature two cables and a plug-and-play solution to optimize installation processes.
- BYD is accelerating the installation of the next 10,000 chargers, targeting an average of 80 new installations per day.
- On-site energy storage is utilized to manage the high power demands BDS stations place on the grid.
- These chargers are available for all electric vehicle brands, with about one-third of sessions logged on the BYD network coming from non-BYD vehicles.
- BYD is expanding internationally, with plans to set up 300 Flash Chargers in the UK by the end of this year.
This milestone reflects the ongoing shift towards electric mobility and emphasizes BYD's commitment to sustainable transportation solutions. The fast charging capability of the Flash Chargers aims to address range anxiety and enhance the convenience of electric vehicles for consumers.
