BYD has reached a significant milestone, installing 10,000 of its second-generation Flash Chargers throughout China. This accomplishment comes as part of the company’s ambitious goal to install 20,000 chargers by the end of 2026, enhancing the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in the country. The T-shaped chargers are engineered to deliver a remarkable 1,500 kW, enabling rapid charging solutions for various electric vehicle models.
Key features of the newly installed Flash Chargers include:
- A dual-gun system that allows two cables per station, charging EVs from 10% to 97% in approximately nine minutes.
- An installation model designed for quick and easy setup, which integrates energy storage systems to help alleviate pressure on the local electric grid.
To meet its target of 20,000 chargers by the end of 2026, BYD plans to accelerate the installation rate significantly, targeting about 80 new chargers to be set up daily. This move is crucial, especially given that one-third of recorded charging sessions so far have come from non-BYD vehicles. This indicates that the Flash Charger network is open and accessible to multiple EV brands, promoting broader EV adoption.
Furthermore, BYD has established partnerships with major companies like Sinopec and PetroChina. These collaborations will enhance the accessibility of the charging network across China, making it easier for EV users to find charging stations. Additionally, BYD is looking to expand its Flash Charger network internationally, with upcoming plans for 300 stations in the UK and initial installations noted in Germany.
