Volvo has identified a new anxiety emerging among electric vehicle drivers, dubbed 'hot dog anxiety.' This term refers to the tendency of drivers to purchase more battery range than they actually need, driven by the availability of ultra-fast charging.
Unlike traditional range anxiety, which centers on fear of running out of power, hot dog anxiety highlights economic and behavioral effects. Drivers overspend on battery capacity, influenced by ultra-fast charging habits and the temptation it creates.
This insight marks a shift in understanding EV adoption challenges. Automakers and charging infrastructure providers can leverage this knowledge to better optimize vehicle offerings and support customer satisfaction.
