Tesla has initiated an unusual recall affecting a very small batch of vehicles—specifically 15 units—that were mistakenly sold to customers in the United States after being imported from Canada.
Regulatory Compliance Issues
The recall stems from the fact that these vehicles were built to meet Canadian motor vehicle safety specifications rather than U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). While the differences between the two markets' standards are often minor, federal law requires all vehicles sold in the U.S. to be fully compliant with local safety regulations.
Because these specific cars were not modified to meet the U.S. criteria before delivery, they are technically considered non-compliant. Tesla will be contacting the 15 affected owners to resolve the documentation and hardware discrepancies to ensure the vehicles meet all domestic safety requirements.
