Retail giant Marks & Spencer (M&S) has announced a significant expansion of its electric vehicle fleet with the introduction of ten battery-electric DAF XD trucks. These vehicles are being deployed across the company's UK logistics network as part of its ongoing commitment to decarbonizing its supply chain.
Innovative Refrigeration Technology
A standout feature of this rollout is a specialized inverter system installed on one of the vehicles. This system allows the truck's main battery to power a refrigerated trailer directly. By utilizing the electric drivetrain's energy for cooling, M&S can eliminate the traditional diesel-powered refrigeration unit, further reducing carbon emissions and noise pollution during deliveries.
The move represents a tactical shift toward heavy-duty electrification for the retailer, showcasing the viability of zero-emission logistics for temperature-controlled goods.
