A new long-term performance study has highlighted the durability of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries in Tesla's lineup. After a rigorous comparison of four different Tesla Model 3 battery variants, data shows that the CATL-produced LFP pack retained the highest percentage of its original capacity.
Superior Retention After 62,000 Miles
The analysis focused on vehicles that had surpassed the 62,000-mile mark, a significant milestone for assessing long-term battery health. While multiple battery chemistries were tested, the LFP variant emerged as the winner in terms of minimal degradation. This chemistry is increasingly favored for standard-range electric vehicles due to its ability to handle frequent charging and its overall structural stability.
While other high-performance battery packs offer greater energy density, the LFP pack's resilience suggests it may be the more cost-effective choice for long-term owners concerned with range retention over time.
