Honda is set to conclude sales of its Prologue electric SUV in North America after the 2026 model year. This decision signals the official end of Honda's short-term partnership with General Motors, which saw the Japanese automaker utilize GM's Ultium battery platform to bring a battery electric vehicle (BEV) to market quickly.
The End of the Ultium Era
The Prologue was developed as a bridge for the brand as it transitioned toward electrification. By leveraging GM's architecture, Honda was able to offer a competitive EV with significant range and modern features. However, with the partnership dissolving, Honda will temporarily find itself without a fully electric offering in the North American market once the 2026 inventory is cleared.
Future Strategy
While the departure of the Prologue leaves a gap in the lineup, Honda is expected to pivot toward its own proprietary EV platform, the 'Honda e:Architecture.' The company remains committed to its goal of achieving 100% zero-emission vehicle sales by 2040, though the immediate road ahead in the U.S. will likely focus on hybrids until its next-generation BEVs are ready for production.
