Mercedes-Benz is pushing the boundaries of the compact luxury segment with the announcement of the 2028 Mercedes GLA. This new small electric SUV is designed to significantly reduce charging downtime, leveraging advanced electrical architecture to compete with high-end performance EVs.
Next-Generation Charging Power
The standout feature of the 2028 GLA is its 800-volt DC charging system. According to early specifications, the vehicle can support charging speeds of up to 320 kW. When connected to a compatible high-speed charger, this allows the GLA to add approximately 168 miles of range in just 10 minutes, effectively addressing one of the primary concerns for EV adoption: long distance travel efficiency.
Market Positioning
By integrating 800-volt technology into a smaller SUV platform, Mercedes-Benz is bringing premium charging performance to a more accessible segment of its lineup. This move signals a shift in the brand's strategy to standardize ultra-fast charging across its entire electric portfolio, ensuring that even its entry-level luxury models offer top-tier technical specifications.
