Revolutionizing the Ownership Experience
Polestar has officially introduced a refined charging strategy for European drivers, unveiling two new subscription tiers for its Polestar Charge service: 'Plus' and 'Pro.' These offerings are designed to address the needs of varying driver profiles, from those who rely on occasional highway top-ups to high-mileage users who frequently utilize the public fast-charging infrastructure. By bundling discounts with a streamlined, app-based interface, Polestar is aiming to simplify the often fragmented experience of public charging.
The New Subscription Tiers
The 'Plus' tier is priced at €7.99 per month in Germany. It provides a 15 per cent discount at major network partners, including EnBW, Shell Recharge, Vattenfall, Mer, and Fastned. This tier grants access to over 104,000 discounted charging points across Europe, with more than 14,000 available in the German market specifically.
For those requiring more frequent power, the 'Pro' tier costs €14.99 monthly and elevates the discount to 30 per cent. This premium subscription expands the network coverage to include Ionity and Allego in addition to the Plus-tier partners. Pro users gain access to over 118,000 discounted points continent-wide, with more than 17,000 located in Germany. These figures mark a significant leap in value, representing a 43 per cent increase in European coverage compared to Polestar's legacy charging offerings.
Strategic Integration and Infrastructure Growth
Beyond the tiered discounts, Polestar Charge has expanded its total roaming footprint to over 1.25 million public charging points throughout Europe. This massive network includes the ubiquitous Tesla Supercharger infrastructure, ensuring that Polestar owners are rarely left without options. Access is managed through a centralized Polestar account, accessible via the official app or a physical charging card. For vehicles equipped with the necessary hardware, the service also supports 'Plug & Charge' functionality, allowing for a seamless transition from plugging in to charging without the need for manual authentication.
Why it Matters
- Broadened Reach: Since its inception in 2024, the network has nearly doubled in size, now encompassing 1.25 million points.
- Economic Incentives: The shift toward subscription-based pricing reflects a broader industry move to lower the total cost of ownership, directly competing with third-party charging apps.
- Seamless Integration: By embedding these charging locations directly into Google Maps, Polestar ensures that route planning is intelligent and stress-free.
As Polestar navigates a challenging 2026 fiscal environment, these enhancements to the ownership experience are critical. The company reported 161,000 charging sessions between June and August 2026 alone, highlighting a high adoption rate among its user base. By strengthening the value proposition for both new and used-car buyers, Polestar is positioning itself to retain customer loyalty in a maturing electric vehicle market.
