The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) marked a significant milestone in the state's transition to electric mobility this week with the ribbon-cutting of its first federally funded EV charging station. The new high-speed chargers are located at a Phillips 66 Mach 1 station in Casey, Illinois.
Expanding the Charging Network
This installation represents the first operational site in Illinois supported by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program. The initiative is part of a broader federal effort to establish a reliable network of fast chargers along major highway corridors, reducing range anxiety for electric vehicle drivers traveling across the country.
The Casey location was strategically chosen to provide essential charging infrastructure along busy transit routes. By utilizing federal funds to energize these high-speed units, Illinois is accelerating its goals to support a growing number of EVs on its roads and ensure that charging remains accessible outside of major metropolitan hubs.
