The Gist

Horse Powertrain has introduced a compact methanol-fueled range extender featuring an innovative axial flux generator to boost EV efficiency.

Horse Powertrain has officially revealed a new range-extender system designed to run exclusively on methanol, offering a fresh alternative for long-range electric mobility. The system integrates a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with a high-efficiency generator and advanced power electronics.

Compact Power with Axial Flux Technology

A standout feature of this new powertrain is Horse's first-ever use of an axial flux generator. Compared to traditional radial flux designs, axial flux technology is significantly more compact and offers higher power density. This allows for a smaller overall footprint without sacrificing the energy output required to maintain battery levels in electric vehicles.

By utilizing methanol, Horse aims to provide a carbon-neutral potential depending on the fuel's production source, while simultaneously addressing range anxiety. The system is designed to act as an onboard power plant, ensuring that EVs can sustain performance even when charging infrastructure is unavailable.
