Clemson University students have made a groundbreaking achievement in the field of electric vehicles by developing the Deep Orange 17, a solar-powered electric car prototype that generates more energy than it consumes.
Key Insights
The Deep Orange 17, nicknamed Luminetta, is a two-door coupé that combines solar technology, lightweight construction, and intelligent vehicle control to achieve its remarkable energy-positive status. The vehicle features over 1,700 photovoltaic cells integrated into its exterior surfaces, generating electricity both while parked and on the move, providing an average of 31 miles of additional range through surplus solar energy.
