Goldman Sachs has identified a significant shift in the technology market, noting that the previously 'extreme' levered positioning toward semiconductor stocks is beginning to reverse. Despite this cooling trend in the chip sector, the firm remains optimistic about the resilience of major cloud and data providers.
Infrastructure Ownership as a Key Moat
Christian Mueller-Glissmann, managing director for portfolio strategy and asset allocation at Goldman Sachs, shared insights with Bloomberg Television regarding the current state of tech investments. He emphasized that 'hyperscalers'—large-scale cloud service providers like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft—are currently in a strong position.
The primary reason for this stability, according to Mueller-Glissmann, is their extensive ownership of physical and digital infrastructure. As the broader market adjusts its exposure to semiconductor manufacturers, these hyperscalers maintain a competitive edge by controlling the essential environments where AI and data processing occur.
