Microsoft security researchers have identified a sophisticated new Windows backdoor known as GigaWiper, which represents a significant escalation in destructive malware capabilities. The primary danger of GigaWiper lies in its versatility. By integrating code from multiple wipers and ransomware strains, the malware can adapt its strategy based on the targeted environment. This multi-pronged approach ensures that if one method of data destruction is blocked, the malware can pivot to another, making recovery efforts significantly more difficult for IT administrators.
