Researchers diving seven kilometers deep in a crewed submersible discovered a large collection of fossil whale bones. The site, described as a deep-ocean 'necropolis,' contains specimens that date back as far as 5 million years.
Among the findings are several whale species unknown to science, providing new insights into whale evolution and deep-sea ecosystems. This discovery marks one of the most significant fossil whale bone sites ever recorded at such extreme ocean depths.
