BMW has reaffirmed its commitment to its North American manufacturing strategy, confirming that production of the Neue Klasse i3 sedan and iX3 SUV remains on schedule to begin in 2027 at the San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.
Strategic Investment in Electrification
The German automaker is investing a total of €800 million to expand the facility's capabilities. A significant portion of this capital is dedicated to constructing a new, specialized assembly line for BMW's sixth-generation high-voltage batteries. This localized battery production is expected to streamline logistics and enhance the efficiency of the EV manufacturing process for the North American market.
The Neue Klasse platform represents a pivotal shift for BMW, focusing on a dedicated electric architecture that promises improved range, faster charging speeds, and a completely redesigned digital user experience.
