The Spanish government has officially approved the regulatory framework for its new Auto+ incentive program, a strategic initiative designed to bolster the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) through the end of the decade. This new scheme is set to replace the existing MOVES III program, providing a more stable and long-term support structure for the automotive transition.
Centralized Management and Eligibility
Unlike previous iterations which were often decentralized, the Auto+ program will feature centrally managed grants. This shift aims to streamline the application process and ensure more consistent distribution of funds across the country. The program is specifically tailored to support the decarbonization of transport, focusing exclusively on high-efficiency models.
Strict Zero-Emission Requirements
A key feature of the Auto+ scheme is its strict eligibility criteria. To qualify for the subsidies, vehicles must carry the country’s 'ZERO' emissions label. This effectively excludes internal combustion engine vehicles and certain hybrids that do not meet the stringent environmental standards required for the top-tier label. By committing to this framework through 2030, Spain aims to provide market certainty for both consumers and manufacturers in the EV sector.
