Astronomers have made a remarkable discovery using the MOTHRA telescope and other observations, capturing a breathtaking image of the Helix Nebula.
Key Insights
The Helix Nebula, a bright ring of gas located 650 light-years from Earth in the constellation Aquarius, has been found to have 22 complete or partial arc-shaped glowing shock waves on its eastern side. These glowing bow shocks occur where clumps of stellar debris collide with the surrounding gas, stripping and breaking apart the debris, and mark an important stage in the recycling of stellar material into interstellar space.
