Honda is making a significant shift in its North American strategy by discontinuing the Prologue, its final remaining electric vehicle in the U.S. market. This move comes in tandem with the cancellation of the Acura ZDX, effectively leaving the Japanese automaker without a pure battery-electric option for American consumers in the immediate future.
A Strategic Reset
The Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX were developed in partnership with General Motors, utilizing the Ultium battery platform. While these models represented Honda's initial push into the competitive EV landscape, their removal from the lineup suggests a transition period as the company reevaluates its long-term electrification roadmap.
Despite this withdrawal, Honda has previously signaled intentions to develop its own proprietary EV platforms. For now, however, the brand will rely on its robust hybrid lineup to maintain a presence in the low-emissions segment while it prepares for the next generation of electric mobility.
