The Danza Brand Entry
BYD has officially entered the Indonesian premium electric vehicle market with the introduction of its new 'Danza' brand, a localized renaming of its global Denza line following trademark considerations. This launch marks a significant expansion for the Chinese automotive giant, bringing advanced battery technology and high-performance electric vehicles to Southeast Asia. The debut includes two flagship models: the updated D9 MPV and the aggressive Z9 GT shooting brake, both of which serve as the debut platform for BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and ultra-fast 'Flash Charging' architecture.
1. The Updated Danza D9 MPV
The new Danza D9 represents a significant leap in performance and utility for the premium MPV segment. Now equipped with an upgraded 115 kWh Blade Battery—an 11% increase in capacity over its predecessor—the D9 offers an impressive NEDC range of 730 kilometers. Propulsion is handled by a front-mounted electric motor delivering 340 kW, providing a substantial power boost over the previous generation. Priced at approximately 1.08 billion rupiah, the vehicle positions itself as a high-end contender for luxury-seeking families.
Perhaps most impressive is the vehicle's integration with BYD's new infrastructure. During live demonstrations in Jakarta, the D9 proved capable of charging from 10% to 97% in just under ten minutes, setting a new benchmark for convenience in the region. This rapid energy intake is enabled by the second-generation LFP cells, which are specifically tuned to handle the extreme thermal loads associated with high-voltage flash charging.
2. The High-Performance Danza Z9 GT
For those prioritizing driving dynamics, the Danza Z9 GT arrives as an all-electric shooting brake with supercar-rivaling specifications. The vehicle utilizes a triple-motor configuration—one at the front and two at the rear—that generates a combined output of 850 kW and a staggering 1,210 Nm of torque. This powertrain setup allows the Z9 GT to sprint from 0 to 100 kph in a mere 2.7 seconds, placing it firmly in the performance elite.
Underneath the hood, the Z9 GT houses a 122.49 kWh battery pack that provides a robust 701-kilometer NEDC range. With a price point of 2.25 billion rupiah, the model is targeted at enthusiasts looking for a blend of grand-tourer comfort and electrified aggression. Like the D9, it features full compatibility with the new 1,500 kW Flash Charging network, ensuring that long-distance journeys can be completed with minimal downtime.
The Infrastructure Push: 100 Flash Chargers
To support its new vehicle lineup, BYD is embarking on an ambitious infrastructure project in Indonesia. The company plans to install 100 'Flash Chargers' across the country by the end of December 2026. These unique T-shaped chargers feature dual dispensers and are capable of delivering an output of up to 1,500 kW. The initial rollout has begun at the Danza Bipo Gatot Subroto dealership in Jakarta, with plans to make these chargers accessible via partnerships with operators like Utomo Charge+, iGreen+, and Arista Power, as well as a dedicated BYD app.
Why it Matters
The introduction of 1,500 kW charging technology and the second-generation Blade Battery represents a major shift in how Southeast Asian consumers perceive EV ownership. By eliminating long charging sessions—the primary barrier to mass adoption—BYD is effectively positioning itself to dominate the premium EV sector in Indonesia and potentially the wider region.
